FORTS FOLLE AVOINE EVENTS 2026 SCHEDULE 

SCHOOL DAYS - SPRING

Wednesday - Friday, May 20-22, 2026

Special school tours will take place on the Thursday and Friday preceding our spring Opening Weekend, with demonstrations of primitive skills and camps that take place along with shorter tours of the North West and XY trading posts, and the Ojibwe Village constructed at Forts Folle Avoine.

This field trip provides teachers and students with historical information and entertainment as the period-dressed guide and fur trade reenactors speak and teach about the life and culture of these early occupants of the area.

School Field Trips usually take about one-and-a-half to two hours. An additional hour might be needed for bag lunches, viewing the exhibits, or enjoying the opportunity to visit the Gift Shop.

OPENING WEEKEND SPRING ENCAMPMENT

Wednesday - Sunday, May 20-24, 2026

Demonstrators are needed!  All Fur Trade Era Rendezvous Campers are welcome, whether you are a demonstrator or not. Traders may sell on Saturday and Sunday, but not during the School Days (Wed-Fri) at the request of the teachers. If you are willing to teach or demonstrate during School Days, your camp fee is waived, otherwise it is $35 per camp for the event. NEW!  Burnett County Historical Society Members will receive a $10 discount off camp fees for all Encampments and Rendezvous events.

Firewood is provided, Ice will be available for purchase. Setup can begin May 16.  Campers arriving May 20-22 can set up before 10am and after 2pm.

HOURS: 10am to 4pm

Come fill your gardens and flower beds with plants - all sales benefit the Forts!  Volunteers are needed to help with the sale - contact Pam to sign up to help!

Enjoy our wild rice pancakes, made with locally sourced wild rice, plus eggs, sausage, milk, orange juice and coffee, on the back deck of the visitor center.  Take a tour after and wander through the fur trade encampment to learn more about the fur trade.


REFLECTIONS OF OUR PAST

Celebrate summer with your fellow reenactors.  1802-1804 Yellow River Echoes has camps by the river and fur posts, specifically 1802-1805 period correct ONLY in that area –other Rendezvous camps will set up in Trader’s Row.  Traders are welcome and encouraged!  No planned competitions at this event.  $35 per camp.

GREAT FOLLE AVOINE FUR TRADE RENDEZVOUS

Tuesday, July 21 through Sunday, July 26, 2026

Step back in time at the Great Folle Avoine Fur Trade Rendezvous, a vibrant living history experience of over 100 authentic pre-1840s encampments along the banks of the Yellow RIver where two competing fur trade companies wintered from 1802 to 1804.

Take a tour of the re-created fur posts, then visit with reenactors showcasing essential period skills. Witness the smoke and thunder of black powder shooting and the silent flight of traditional archery, and try your hand at tomahawk throwing.

Shop Trader's Row, offering a treasure trove of frontier goods for those looking to take a piece of history home. Traders display a stunning array of period-correct clothing, animal skins, and rustic camp furnishings, along with handcrafted jewelry and beadwork. Whether you are searching for utilitarian camp gear or fascinating decorative items, the variety of wares provides a true window into the craftsmanship of the era.

DAGWAGGIN GABESHI ENCAMPMENT

Saturday October 3 and Sunday October 4, 2026

Celebrate fall with your fellow reenactors. This more intimate camp takes place in the Primitive Camping area along the banks of the Yellow River. Traders may sell on Saturday and Sunday, but not during the School Days at the request of the teachers. Open to the public Wed - Sat, with demonstrations, archery and tomahawk throwing practice, and vendors. No planned competitions at this event. If reenactors are willing to teach or demonstrate during School Days, their camp fee is waived, otherwise it is $35 per camp.

INDOOR TRADE AND CRAFT FAIR AND PRIMITIVE BIATHLON

Tentatively Saturday, February 13 AND Sunday, Feb 14, 2026 (Biathlon is Feb 13 only)

HOURS:   Trade Fair 10am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday
                 Primitive Biathlon 10am to 2pm with Award Ceremony at 3pm Saturday only

Come and see what treasures you can find from a wide selection of vendors, from fur trade rendezvous related items to a variety of handmade crafts.  Get outside on Saturday to participate in the Primitive Black Powder Biathlon, pairing snowshoeing with muzzleloader shooting.
