This event combines marksmanship with snowshoeing. The approximately ½ mile course includes four shooting stations at the rifle range with four shots being fired at each station. Participants snowshoe to the range and back, and snowshoe a short loop in between shooting at each station.
The Primitive Biathlon is open to people of all skill and experience levels. Participants are allowed to use any type of muzzleloader and any style of snowshoes. The event will be held regardless of weather. If there is insufficient snow for snowshoes, participants carry their snowshoes while completing the course. The entry fee is $15, and there will be several prizes for the winners as well as door prizes for participants.
This event is free to onlookers who will be able to cheer on their favorite participants as they snowshoe around the course. Also that day, join us at the visitor center for our annual Indoor Rendezvous Trade and Crafter’s Fair (Sat. Feb 28, 10am to 4pm and Sunday March 1, 10am to 2pm). Lunch will be available for purchase.
