As a non-profit organization we rely on the many talents of our members, sponsors, and friends to complete the many tasks associated with the operation of Forts Folle Avoine and the Burnett County Historical Society. Our volunteers are what keeps our organization running.
There are many opportunities to volunteer throughout the year. Whether its for an hour or a full day, one time or on a regular basis, we have something for you. These are our most urgent needs:
Spring Cleanup Week: from Monday, April 27th through Saturday, May 1, 2026. Volunteers needed to help clean up the grounds and visitor center, cut wood, and help work on the fur post buildings repairing the log walls.
Gift Shop: We are in great need of volunteers to help operate the gift shop during our open season and during special events. You will be trained to operate the cash register and card payment system and check in visitors. Our open days are Wednesday through Saturday, 10am to 4pm from Memorial Weekend through Labor Day weekend, and Saturdays in September.
Kitchen: Our kitchen volunteers help prepare and serve food at various events. We have a wonderful full commercial kitchen and make great wild rice soup, not to mention our Wild RIce Pancake Breakfast 4 times each summer!
Wild Rice Pancake Breakfast: All hands on deck (the back deck, of course) for this 4-times per summer fundraiser. We need pancake flippers, servers, kitchen help, money collectors, and cleanup crew.
Grounds Crew: Calling all you good folks who enjoy getting down and dirty outside. There is grass to cut, trees to make into firewood, buildings to maintain, and machines to take care of. We have a crew that meets every Monday throughout the summer to tackle whatever tasks are needing to be done, and other days as needed. We always need more help!
One major benefit we hear over and over again is that volunteering at The Forts" is a great way to meet new friends in an enjoyable and healthy environment. If you'd like to lend a hand, please contact us!
SCHOOLS - we are happy to work with local students who need community service hours.
