Our Mission:
The Burnett County Historical Society provides educational opportunities to the public by researching, preserving, and teaching the history of Burnett County.
In support of our mission BCHS:
- Conducts Living History tours to Historic Fur Trade Posts and Ojibwe Indian Village
- Provides educational programs for schools
- Organizes Fur Trade and Native American Displays
- Creates Exhibits that Interpret Burnett County History
- Operates a History Research Library
- Stores historical records and artifacts from Burnett Count
Current goals of the Burnett County Historical Society include:
- Facilitate/enhance/expand educational opportunities related to the history of Burnett County and the Fur Trade era
- Develop and maintain key partnerships
- Establish and maintain financial stability to support our mission
The Burnett County Historical Society is a non-stock, non profit corporation organized under Chapter 181 and section 44.03 of the Wisconsin Statutes with 501-C-3 status.
- BCHS was founded in 1945.
- BCHS was incorporated in 1979.
- In 1988 the Society assumed management of Forts Folle Avoine Historical Park.
- The organization is governed by a Board of Directors who are elected by the membership according to the By-Laws of the organization.
