BLACKSMITH SHOP
Demonstrations of the art of blacksmithing are held at selected seasonal events!
The Blacksmith project was completed in 2009 as a year-long project involving Burnett County students from Webster High School, Siren High School, and Grantsburg High School. The Blacksmith Shop was finished under the guidance of Chuck Awe, a Forts Folle Avoine volunteer blacksmith, with much assistance from a crew of hardworking volunteers. The authentic 1890's style forge now makes various items that are offered for sale in the Burnett County Historical Society Gift Shop.
The Blacksmith building was built and funded by Steve and Ginny Wierschem as a Memorial to their son Nathan, 1981-2005, and a 2000 graduate of Webster High School. White Pine logs were cut from young Nathan's farm, sawn into boards, and used in the construction of Fort Folle Avoine's Blacksmith Shop. In addition, the Wierschem family has donated a variety of artifacts relevant to early blacksmithing, as well as antique smithing tools currently used in the Blacksmith Shop.
