Visitor Center
Open Memorial Weekend through Labor Day Weekend
May 28 - September 5 (Wednesdays through Sundays) &
Saturdays & Sundays during September
10 am - 4 pm
In the Great Room is a captioned photographic journey entitled "A Sense of Place" which covers the discovery of the Forts Folle Avoine and its exciting archeological remains.
The Folle Avoine's Fur Trade Exhibit room provides a wonderful overview of the historic site with a variety of displays, including maps and artifacts, from the era of the NorthWest and XY Fur Trade Companies. This exhibit paints a vivid picture of life along the Yellow River as it was more than two hundred years ago!
Yet another exhibit not to be missed is the Ojibwe Native American Artifacts & History display with its beautifully beaded items, tools, cradleboards, and other authentic pieces.
The Visitor Center, a log building with north woods ambiance, was originally the Snowbank Lodge in Ely, Minnesota. Several years ago it was moved, rebuilt, and now is the site of events offered at Forts Folle Avoine throughout the year!
In addition to the exhibits open to the public, the Visitor Center contains our Gift Shop, featuring books, craft items, jewelry, and souvenirs with fur trade and Native American themes.
