The 2010 Scenario for Day Campers:
Joseph Duchene LaPrairie, the Clerk at Fort Folle Avoine, and his trusty Engages' (voyageurs) will guide campers along the paths of the Forts.
According to LaPrairie, there will be a variety of trials that campers will need to best. For example, the perilous rapids of the "Riviere Jaune" can pose a very real threat to the company's canoe. It is of utmost importance that these rapids be successfully negotiated so that the year's trade goods can be unloaded and readied for the busy season ahead.
Yet another challenge will present itself--after the natives' presence and the unduly harsh winter-- the trail to the Post likely will be nearly insurmountable (rather like an obstacle course)! Furthermore, alarming rumors continue to circulate suggesting Dakota may be in the vicinity--all of which only adds to both the tension and the necessity to be ever vigilant.
Mr. Sayer, the boss of LaPrairie, wisely has let it be known that all crew members must be ready and able to defend themselves against any attack. There will be, therefore, intensive self-defense instruction offered in a variety of forms--including rifle range, archery, hawk throwing, as well as the ancient "Atlatl".
It also has been recounted that, this winter past, there were several instances where a person became confused and disoriented while traveling and, with harrowing experiences, barely made a safe return! Hence, concerns linger about basic survival skills in the event that any person should become lost either in the woods or while going "endurand" to native villages. Mr. Sayer is absolutely determined that such peril will not again find campers unprepared. Hence, all will become proficient in creating a shelter; all will learn about food for survival, and all will learn the technique of using a Quebec-style clay oven.
Joseph Duchene LaPrairie has announced that the Company will provide one meal per day (lunch), along with adequate refreshments to invigorate body and mind, to all emboldened campers who accept the rigorous and delightful experience of Day Camp at Forts Folle Avoine.
